Guest blogs and language geekdom

I have written a guest blog for Tim's travelblog, Aerohaveno, if you want to check it out. It's all about how Queenstown is possibly not a real place.

Last night we watched Who Do You Think You Are, that British genealogy series, because it had David Tennant in it. Tim and I both went into little flights of glee when the voiceover guy pronounced 'genealogy' correctly. (See that 'a' in there people??? See it?? PRONOUNCE IT AS AN 'A' AND NOT AS AN 'O'. That is all.)  It very nearly made up for the announcer saying that Tennant plays "Doctor Who". (Sigh. He plays The Doctor. The *show* is called "Dr Who", not the character. Go and look at the credits if you don't believe me.)

Oh, I am such a picky, picky geek.

The other moment of delight in the genealogy show was hearing Tennant, in his adorable Scottish accent, discovering some unearthed skulls in a church in Mull and exclaiming "Oh, there are some HEEEEEEDS!" in an excited squeak. Probably would have been better if he hadn't come over all Hamlet and picked them up to look at, but I guess it's that spirit of investigation which makes him so well suited to playing the Doctor.

*Smooshie hugs you* for getting it right!!! I am such a language snob. Sigh.

hehe - I used to doubt myself that maybe I was pronouncing it wrong and then looked it up and felt calm and peaceful.
I get a bit miffed when certain words that are repeatedly pronounced incorrectly get accepted as correct.

LOL. Tim and I have been known to rail at the screen for minutes at a time because they have got it so utterly wrong. I mind it less when regular folk get it wrong, but journalists, even TV journalists, ought to know better. IT's THEIR JOB, DAMNIT.

How's the family? It's A's birthday soon, yeah? Did the practice baking go well?

The baking went very well indeed! I think I'll have these cakes perfected soon :o)
Allie won't even be eating it, so I need to make sure it's super good, because I wouldn't want to eat any cake that was not quite right. I've made another batch today - the batter is so yummy and I've managed to have a decent taster and stick to my kilojoule count for the day. Hooray!
All is going very well - C's away in Port Macquarie all week for work, so just the girls here which will be fun, if not a little lonely. But, Allie is awesome and provides for lots of giggles.
